Solr has a new logo
I guess I missed the voting (or maybe normals weren’t allowed in), but I quite like it! So much easier on the eyes than the ol’ “dripping orange stuff” look of the old one.

Replacing Amazon SQS with something faster and...
Did you know that SQS costs a dollar per million messages? That’s sent or received, so really it’s 2 bucks a million. Another thing with SQS: it’s slow. This is the place for the OSX/NC10. Seems that everything is OK except wifi (you can get a Dell card for cheap to replace the one in there) and power management and the internal LAN.

Samsung NC10
Good: Keyboard. Easy to type on. No real problems.  Weight/size. Is about exactly half the weight of a white macbook (when you include power adapters for both.) I didn’t think this would matter but it really does, especially when walking around a lot with it on you.  Battery. Hasn’t run out during a day yet. Does everything I do, python, web, logging into EC2 machines…. ...

Plotters & Serial Adapters
Got this beauty in the office: 200 pound freight, the guy wouldn’t even carry it up our stairs. I had to standing-kick the pallet support beams and tear the thing apart in our lobby. Thankfully it was a holiday and not a lot of people were around. The plotter itself is not so heavy, but came with a a beautiful rolling stand and a lot of pens.
